Astro Bot is picking up speed by word of mouth. I've been seeing a lot of commercials for it on various video streaming apps (Hulu, Freevee, Disney), and it's completely sold out in Japan. So let's not discount it just yet. I think the problem is that some people seem to think it's on par with the free PS5 pack-in, which honestly was a good amount of gameplay (5hr average)... Longer than Hellblade 2 (ouch!), but the new Astro Bot game is much larger, and has a lot more variation to it as well.

Its probably not selling well cause its too hard.

its a great game but most people i know just see it as "oh its that free dual sense feature demo game that came with the ps5 but for $60" plus most PS owners are not looking for Mario like platformers to play, people will buy it for their kids and its not a lot of sales probably

well Sony gave gamers opportunity to "proof it". Will it become another Hi-Fi? Probably NOT but if sales tank, the team's probably got one last chance. Need to stop making excuses what Sony needs to do with smaller games when not enough people buy it - speak with your wallet.

The game certainly didn't cost that much. I think it's gonna sell well, the word of mouth has been crazy.

I think we’re sort of at an inflection point in the gaming industry right now. You have a younger user base that’s not super tuned in to console gaming, at least as it relates to narrative, single player games, and who lack nostalgia with the earlier franchises also, you have gamers in their 30s and 40s that have fallen out of the new cycle and perhaps or not buying games on their release day.

Sounds like a cool idea

This game will sell like horizon zero dawn...years from now you would look up and it will be at 20 millions copy sold. Its too good and is getting too much praise with the reviews not to. And may win many awards at the game awards and get even more exposure.

A lot of playstation players are still on ps4 also and this is ps5 only put it on pc too.

Most parents are not gonna buy their kids a $399 console just so they can play games that cost $40-70. Every kid has a phone nowadays and access to thousands of free games. Switch 2 is going to do much worse than Switch if it costs more than $299. Astro bot is targeting an audience that moved to free to play live service games, they are not gonna buy Astro bot.

This game is very similar to a replica of Mario. Those who enjoy this type of game usually have a switch.

I assume Astro Bot exploded digitally not on discs in Europe.

Also, this just once again displays my long-held opinion that Sony simply does not advertise their games. Unless it's the typical over the shoulder dad simulator or their robot dinosaur open world slop.

This just tells me that once again gamers are hypocrites, especially Sony ponies, they will cry and moan like little babies about how we need more single player games, and then when a polished single player game comes out exclusively for PS5.. they don't buy it, they just make RUclips videos about how astrobot is beating muh woke Concord. Before anyone attacks me, I like PVP and single player games. And yes, I bought astrobot but I haven't played it yet.

And on Amazon it's a best-selling console THING behind only gift cards for PSN, Xbox, Roblox and Fortnite. And on Amazon Jp it was SOLD OUT. So no, sales are not soft and not troubling, British physical shops are just dying.

Been playing it with my son and he loves it, I think it’s a weigh up for Sony on revenue versus cost of development and marketing. Based on the small team, pretty much solid gameplay base it was a pretty short dev cycle and cost effective. Also I expect to see a bundle of this with the PS5 during the Christmas period.

Tbf i wouldnt pay attention, theres 67 million people in the uk, barely any of them have a ps5, even less have ps5 disc edition, uk physical sales arent a representation of anything, i live in manchester tho and bought the physical, paid for the extra content and bought the controller for my daughter

Twitter aint the world folks. Vast majority of ps5 owners are normies that are just buying brand name recognition and only play 1 game a year either Cod Madden or fifa. This is why selling consoles is a shit business. Sony needs to open up wxclusivity or focus on GAAS or likely both. They make dick on hardware. Theyre probably #1 in bluray player sales too and its just about as relevent and prestigious when theyre losing 30 billion a year in stock valuation for being stapled to a dying strategy in a console market that has seen no growth in a decade

I was putting a lot of hope in Astro Bot. I hoped it showed PS that games that are smaller or gameplay first are still viable. They seem to care a lot about Metacritic, which I don't but whatever, Astro is the top game of the year on there. PS definitely noticed that. I got the game physically and 100% the game within the week. I had an enormous delight to play it. Very much looking forward to the updates to come.

I have no interest in the game. So it's a no from me.

The generational sharing is happening in my house. I am save file 1, my 6 year old is save file 2 and my 11 year old is save file 3. Everyone taking turns on their save and helping each other out when we get stuck. It's been great and I hope my kids remember this like I remember Super Mario 64.

This entire game is apparently designed for 5 year olds and they give people like me 4 levels that have any sort of challenge and here you are saying those need to be easier too. We got 4 levels. I totally relate to your MSNBC/FOX analogy but I think this is potentially reducing the issue to "objective truth vs comfortable narratives", which IMO isn't the case here. At the bottom of it, if we try and read beyond the tone and words non-professional commentators use to express themselves, the issue is rather about critiques being critiqued of maybe judging a creative form with wrongly weighted metrics. Let's assume Stellar Blade or Helldivers were in part successful because in today's landscape they look like a provocation; a journalist should be able to analyse and report on that. If not then there's maybe a problem in regards to blindspots or self censorship in modern outlets. Astrobot looks maybe artistically too generic compared to Mario 3D world to be a hit, and maybe game critiques fail to recognize that? Maybe the way diversity is applied by corporations to their products looks superficial to some people? Maybe modern curation philosophy is the responsibility of a publisher on portfolio level rather than of a developer within one game? Maybe considering western most recent state of philosophy the pinnacle to which everyone should align can be perceived as an intellectual imperialism abroad?

Sony would need to release kid friendly games with the consistency of Nintendo. Astro Bot sequels or similar games from Sony first party would have to come out quicker than 4 years to stay in the mindeye of kids imo. However if you start diverting resources to those kinda games, then you have less allocated dev time to the AAA games that we have come to expect from PlayStation.

When all of your beliefs or “philosophy” just happen to match up exactly to the accepted elements of a certain political party, I begin to wonder whose philosophy it actually is. It’s an easy thing to fall into if you’re not constantly guarding against it. I’m not even gonna watch the video with commenting here. This game just came out with very little marketing and received incredibly high praise from everyone who played it. That “soft” diagnosis for game that cannot do huge numbers off out of the gate, but can be a very, long-standing success. Anyone that buys a new ps5 system plays this game, it’s a console game that only can be experienced on PS5 hardware.

This type of game shouldn't be expected to sell 10m copies. I'm sure it will be very profitable for playstation. It's good to have diversity in the type of games. Not everything should me an action bloody shooting game. Right now playstation just needs games lol but I don't see how Astro would be called a failure in any way

I actually think you should be able to get out of your car and shoot and kill. I think you should make it more like Warhawk in that way to have a 3rd person shooter with added car combat balanced together.
